Drayton Gardens 1960-1983
In 1960, Maeve Gilmore and Mervyn Peake moved the family to Drayton Gardens in Chelsea and South Kensington, London. Maeve Gilmore continued to work here until her death, during which time she covered the walls, furniture, and every surface with fantastical paintings and murals.
Maeve’s son, the Artist Fabian Peake, documented the murals in 1983 before the house was sold and the murals removed. Using these images, Concept Artist Lewis Peake produced a short animation with a soundtrack by musician Jack Peñate, both of whom are Maeve's grandsons, to reconstruct the place that the family cherished dearly. The soundtrack captures a family dinner set against the backdrop of a live piano.
